In 1820 there was a wooden ship called the Essex that went out to hunt for whales. They were hunting in the Pacific Ocean for a whale that they called Moby Dick.
The 32 meter whale was so big his head crashed in to the boat twice leaving a hole for all the water to get in. The ship sunk with everyone in it all of the crew members lost their lives and only 20 survivor the sinking.
The youngest crew member Owen Coffin die when the other crew members killed him and eat him. It took 3 months for the 20 survivor to get home in the 3 lifeboats thats was on the Essex. Finally ship came by to save the 20 survivors.
